Sydney to Jervis Bay

Escape the hustle and bustle of Sydney as you head south through Royal National Park, the beginning of the Grand Pacific Drive. Drive over the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge and continue south to Kiama. Stop off at the Kiama Blowhole, the largest blowhole in the world, shooting water up to 60 metres (200 feet) up into the air.
Drive another hour and a half south to reach your destination, Jervis Bay.

Jervis Bay

Home to white sand beaches, year-round dolphin cruises, and migrating whales, there is plenty to see and do in Jervis Bay. To experience the whitest sand in Australia, take the spectacular White Sands Walk from Greenfield Beach to Hyams Beach. The beaches are surrounded by beautiful natural attractions, including Jervis Bay Marine Park, Booderee National Park, clifftop walking trails, and wildlife.
If you are lucky enough to visit between May and November, jump on a whale-watching cruise for a chance to spot humpback whales in their natural habitat.

Day 3 - Jervis Bay

Explore Jervis Bay

Jervis Bay is known for its stunning beaches, mild temperatures, and generally sunny climate. But like anywhere, they occasionally get a bit of rain. One of Australia’s best-kept secrets, at its heart is Huskisson, a vibrant seaside town with plenty to see and do. There is a pathway that goes all the way from the Huskisson and it extends to the Greenfield beach there is a nice little scenic bush track that takes you to Hyams beach and you might spot some raccoons. Get out and explore the bay and the white sand beaches and the breathtaking views of the area. Whether you like to swim, surf or snorkel. You can’t visit Jervis Bay without spending time on and in the water.
There are also neighborhoods to explore and you might spot a kangaroo or many! Whether beach hopping, hiking, or kangaroo spotting, you’re bound to have a great time on this slice of Aboriginal land. Take the path to the plantation point or all the way to Huskisson.
If you fancy time on the beach Collingwood beach offers a nice little place to explore with calm waters it is the perfect place to relax. There is even an opportunity to check out a bit of oceanic history on a bush walk at the Governor's Head Lookout.

Day 4 - Merimbula via the Sapphire Coast

Jervis Bay to Merimbula

Embarking on a 4-hour journey along the coast Leaving Jervis bay and heading north towards Merimbula. To break up the journey and stretch the legs we recommend the Moruya heads lookout, if you're lucky you might even spot a whale here. Passing through Narooma Make sure to stop and grab an iconic photo with the 'Australia' rock situated on the oceanfront. Carrying on you will reach Burrill Lake, the home of the iconic Burrill lake fish and chip shop so if you haven't had your seafood fix perhaps stop here and try it for yourself. The remainder of the journey follows the coast to reach your destination of Merimbula a captivating seaside town filled with ocean beaches and coastal lakes, with plenty of opportunities to see a whale or if you are feeling adventurous  Magic Mountain is a small theme park providing thrills.

Merimbula

Merimbula is a seaside town on the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales that offers a vibrant village centre set alongside forest, pristine beaches and tranquil coastal lakes. The area was originally inhabited by the Yuin Aboriginal people, and eventually became a bustling cargo and transport wharf. It became a popular tourist destination in the 1960's, and remains so today.

In both winter and spring it is a great spot for watching the whale migration along the 'humpback highway' of the east coast, either from one of the many lookout points or a guided cruise. Stroll along the boardwalk and up the esplanade to stop in the village for lunch at a waterfront cafe, or walk over the bridge to relax at Main Beach. For the nature enthusiasts, visit the Potoroo Palace wildlife sanctuary or discover the lagoons and walking trails in Bournda National Park.

The area around Lake Entrance is home to many beautiful drives, including the Great Alpine Road which takes you through the Victorian Alps and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The Great Alpine Road is a popular destination for those interested in scenic drives, with many winding roads and beautiful vistas along the way. The top stops along the way from Merimbula to Lakes Entrance (with short detours) are Killer Whale Museum, and Buchan Caves Reserve. Lake Entrance is known for its beautiful beaches, fishing, and outdoor recreational activities, such as swimming, surfing, and hiking. The town is situated on the lakeside and then, just a couple hundred meters over the sand dunes, the ocean waves beat at the shoreline.

Lakes Entrance

Lakes Entrance is a popular holiday spot on the coast of the Gippsland region. It is situated on the pristine Ninety Mile Beach which is popular for surfing, and has a large network of inland waterways for kayaking and other calm water activities. There are also beautiful campgrounds in the area showcasing the wild beauty and native fauna of the Gippsland coast. Lakes Entrance is renowned as a quality seafood hotspot that you can enjoy at a number of restaurants throughout town, or try your hand at catching your own on a fishing charter. If relaxation is high on your agenda, this quaint seaside village also offers cycling trails, guided nature walks, helicopter rides, wineries, a day spa and even mystery tours.

Today's drive to Wilsons Promontory is about 300 km and takes over 3.5 hours. On your way, you might like to visit Raymond Island. The island mainly draws the attention of nature lovers for koala sightseeing. You can jump on the ferry from Paynesville and hit the island's Koala Trail. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for kangaroos bounding through open fields and colorful parrots dancing among the treetops. Finally, arrive at the glorious Wilsons Promontory National Park and enjoy the largest coastal wilderness in Victoria, including pristine beaches, mountains, forests, and gern gullies.  Explore its network of walking trails, leading to hidden coves, secluded beaches, and awe-inspiring viewpoints. Wilsons Promontory promises an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

Wilsons Promontory National Park

Wilsons Promontory National Park, affectionately called Wilson's Prom, is the southernmost tip of the Australian mainland. The area encompasses stunning landscapes, ranging from pristine sandy beaches adjacent towering granite cliffs to low lying bush stretching along rivers. The park offers something for everyone, including easy short walks, moderate summit treks and even overnight hikes. For those who just want to soak up the peaceful surrounds there are numerous secluded beaches to laze upon and snorkel their calm waters, such as at Picnic Bay. Alternatively you can also jump on a guided cruise to experience the beautiful coastline and islands from a different vantage point. The park is home to many species of Australian wildlife, so don't be surprised to cross paths with a wombat on a bush walk or kangaroos lazing about in the grass. Tidal River is the main visitor hub for the Prom, located half an hours drive into the park. Here you will find the visitor centre, a great place to plan your day with a chat to the rangers, and stock up on snacks and essentials at the general store.

Day 8 - Wilsons Promontory to Phillip Island

Wilsons Promontory to Phillip Island

Heading northwest out of Wilsons Promontory towards Phillip Islands the drive time is roughly 2 hours through the rural rolling hills and along the rugged seaside passing through many natural attractions to reach your destination. The first attraction you will pass through is Big Drift, this is a must-see hidden gem, a great stop to stretch your legs and wander along the 2km hike along the Sand dunes. Turning right at Foster road is Fish Creek, a small railway picturesque town built in the 1800s, make sure to look out for the giant fish at the Fish Creek hotel. Continuing on you will pass through Inverloch, home to Andersons outlet, the perfect stopover to get some fresh air along the coastal tracks before getting back on the road. Turning right onto Bass highway is Kilcunda a small relaxing beach town filled with many cafes and restaurants to grab a bite to eat. Reaching Anderson you will turn left onto Phillip Island road, arriving at the 'San Remo Bridge' the gateway to your destination Phillip Island, the home to the little penguins and enchanting coastlines.

Phillip Island

Phillip Island is just 90 minutes from Melbourne. It is home to white-sand beaches, captivating coastlines, fun family activities, and world-class events, such as the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. See Little Penguins return to their burrows on sunset, watch inquisitive seals play at sea, go in search of whales, and be in awe of natural scenery on a coastal walk. You can also visit Phillip Island Chocolate Factory and taste delicious chocolate treats and even make your own chocolate creation on the spot.
