Day 1 - Darwin to Kakadu National Park

Darwin to Kakadu National Park

This morning, depart Darwin and journey towards Kakadu National Park. Travel along the Arnhem Highway, passing through the productive region of Humpty Doo, known for its tropical fruit farms. Cross the Adelaide River, home to vast wetlands that attract migratory birds, before arriving at Mary River. Here, enjoy a wildlife cruise showcasing the region's incredible fauna, including saltwater crocodiles and an abundance of birdlife. Continuing east, enter the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Stop to take in the scenic Mamukala Wetlands and visit the Bowali Visitor Centre for insights into the park's rich natural and cultural heritage. The day concludes at the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru, your accommodation for the next two nights. Named for its distinctive crocodile shape, this unique hotel offers a memorable stay in the heart of Kakadu.

Day 2 - Kakadu National Park

An early start takes you to Jabiru Airstrip for a breathtaking 60-minute scenic flight over ancient escarpments, expansive floodplains, and winding rivers—landscapes shaped by 1.8 billion years of erosion. Live commentary from your pilot provides fascinating insights as you soar over this spectacular and timeless environment. After landing, journey to the East Alligator River region, the gateway to Arnhem Land. Here, enjoy a guided Indigenous cruise on the East Alligator River, where local stories come to life as you spot large saltwater crocodiles in their natural habitat. Next, visit the World Heritage-listed Ubirr art site, home to some of the world’s most extraordinary rock art. Walk the 1-kilometre circular track to view these ancient works, with an optional steep 250m climb for stunning panoramic views of the Magela floodplain. After a light lunch, continue to Nourlangie, where a 1.5-kilometre walk reveals more incredible rock art and sweeping vistas. Return to the hotel to relax and enjoy dinner.

Day 3 - Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park, Darwin

This morning, depart Kakadu National Park and travel toward Batchelor, the gateway to Litchfield National Park. Known for its diverse Top End habitats, Litchfield is filled with lush monsoon forests, towering termite mounds, unique rock formations, and stunning waterfalls. After a stop for morning tea, continue to Wangi Falls, where a large plunge pool is surrounded by shady grassed areas. The falls flow year-round, and after a light lunch, enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters. Next, visit Florence Falls, where you can take in spectacular views from the scenic platform as the cascading waterfalls plunge into the pool below. The journey concludes with an early evening arrival in Darwin, marking the end of your three-day Simply Kakadu Tour.
