Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tours Darwin to Broome

A 9-day action-packed camping and hiking adventure tour through the Kimberley. Depart Darwin, stopping at the Magnetic Termite Mounds and cooling off at Edith Falls before heading to the Victoria River region for your first night in a swag under the stars. View magnificent ancient rock art and stunning scenery in Jubarra National Park before crossing the border into Western Australia to arrive on a secluded island in Lake Argyle. Pass through Kununurra, Durack and Carr Boyd Ranges before an incredible hike into Echidna Chasm to camp at Purnululu National Park. Experience Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek, then head down the Gibb River Road to spend the night in the infamous El Questro station. The adventure continues as you visit Zebedee Springs, cross the Pentecost River, experience off-roading, rock art sites, Manning Gorge, Bell Gorge and many more places. Spot freshwater crocs at Windjana Gorge and listen to local Aboriginal stories before arriving at your final destination of Broome.

Day 1 - Depart Darwin and make your way to Edith Falls & Victoria River

Darwin to Victoria River

Your Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tour begins as you are picked up from your Darwin accommodation at 06:00 and make your first stop at the remarkable magnetic termite mounds. You will then continue on to Edith Falls for a refreshing swim beneath the waterfall. Afterwards, move on to the Victoria River region for the first night’s camp.

Day 2 - Hike the escarpments, view ancient rock art and camp tonight on an island

Victoria River to Lake Argyle

Start today with a hike into the Victoria River escarpments to see some of the unique rock paintings and breathtaking scenery in Jubarra National Park. Cross the border into Western Australia and arrive at Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake. Here, you will embark on a unique experience exploring the lake and spend the night on one of its secluded islands. Your Lake Argyle Island adventure will begin when you board the cruise vessel with camping gear and head out on to the lake. Explore the islands and bays in search of wildlife, including the short-eared rock-wallaby, wallaroo, freshwater crocodile, and numerous fish species and bird life. You will also have the opportunity to plunge into the cool waters and take a refreshing swim before heading to the island to set up camp. Enjoy the welcomed solitude and sunset with a campfire meal, before resting for the night ready to be woken by the sound of water, wildlife, and an unmissable sunrise. When we are ready, we'll pack up and head back to the mainland for breakfast.

Day 3 - Today, an off-road adventure through Purnululu National Park

This morning, pack up camp and head back to the mainland for breakfast. Then, head through the Durack and Carr Boyd Ranges before embarking on a challenging off-road adventure into the Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles). Here you will hike into Echidna Chasm. Tonight, make camp in the Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles) in the Kimberley.

Day 4 - Hike through the Bungle Bungles, and take an optional helicopter flight

Today starts with a hike through the magnificent Bungle Bungles as you make your way to Cathedral Gorge, the Window and Piccaninny Creek Lookout.
You will also have the option to take a scenic helicopter flight today for an additional cost. If you would like to do this, please let your guides know on tour.

Day 5 - Travel the Gibb River Road and end your day at El Questro Station

Today you will start the Gibb River Road and head into the Cockburn Ranges to Emma Gorge, a pristine swimming hole. Then, continue onto the famous El Questro station where you will camp for the night. You will be able to quench your thirst at the Swinging Arm Bar and catch up with the locals and fellow travellers. Tonight, dine at the bar/restaurant at your own cost.

Day 6 - Today, crystal clear springs & palm lined gorges

El Questro to Pentecost River Crossing

Your first stop today is a series of crystal-clear hot pools, known as Zebedee Springs before embarking on an adventurous hike up the palm-filled El Questro Gorge. At the top you will be rewarded with a swim in the spring-fed waterfall before trekking back to the truck. Drive on to your bush camp for the night, which will include crossing the well-known Pentecost River.

Day 7 - Hike into Manning Gorge to view rock art and spot the Northern Red-Faced turtle

Today, continue your off-road tour on the Gibb River Road making stops at lookouts and rock art sites along route. Hike into Manning Gorge where you will see ancient Bradshaw rock paintings and have the opportunity to spot the Northern Red-Faced turtles that are found in the area. Enjoy another night bush camping under the stars.

Day 8 - Enjoy a gorge swim this morning, and continue on to Bell Gorge

Start the morning by taking a swim at either Galvans or Adcock Gorge, depending on the seasonal conditions. Then, continue on to the remarkable teared waterfall known as Bell Gorge, located in the King Leopold Conservation Park, before heading to our camp.

Day 9 - Explore Windjana Gorge, spot crocodiles and farewell your travel mates as you make your way to Broome.

Bell Gorge to Broome

Start the day exploring Windjana Gorge and spotting freshwater crocodiles, which are abundant in the area. As you wonder into the gorge your guide will tell you stories of Jandamarra and the Bunuba resistance. Afterwards, grab your torch and sink into Tunnel Creek, an amazing limestone cave system where bats and freshwater crocodiles hang out. You will finish your Kimberley Off-Road Tour in Broome in the afternoon, but not before a visit to the Derby Boab Prison Tree.
